Fonte Nova- a Charming part of Town

Fonte Nova neighbourhood

Fonte Nova, is one of the hot spots in Setúbal. It's one of those cozy little squares that you can find in old parts of European towns. It is located in an area known as Troino, an old suburb of the medieval town of Setúbal.
This part of town is known to be linked to the activities of the sea and with a population traditionally made up of fishermen and, in times gone by, people from the canning industry - had it not been in the immediate vicinity of many fish canneries - Troino continues to maintain a strong connection to Sado, the sea and fishing. It’s part of the charm you find when exploring the town.
Today's Setubal is no longer a land of canned fish, just as Troino's population is also no longer overwhelmingly made up of fishermen and other sea workers. But in Troino this connection lasts, not only by those who continue in this task, but also in habits and customs transmitted from generation to generation.
This neighbourhood has seen an increase in interest for the restoration of its buildings, in fact this has become one of the major tourist assets. Many establishments were open such as restaurants, tourist attractions, and  small shops.

Come visit this part of town, enjoy the scenery, believe me you will not be disappointed.
